Spring Cleaning: Items to keep
Spring arrived yesterday and sometime we feel the need to shop for new items. Today, we want to dismantle the belief that a new season needs new clothes. Especially, with new guidelines stating that 5 items of new clothes must be our limit for the year.
Shopping your closet remains the best way to accomplish this scenario. We know that it seems impossible but we picked a few trends that may already be in your closet to put in rotation this season as you put away your winter clothes.
SHEERS
Sheer tops and dresses return from pre-pandemic obscurity when sheer tops appeared in 2018 as a Spring trend. If you purchased a good quality sheer shirt, chances are that you still have them in your closet.
The average clothing item lasts 10 years which means clothes purchased just 6 years ago should still be valid. 2018 remained the time all sheers even dresses came into popularity.
The only difference, current trend focuses on solids rather than prints. Keep sheer prints in storage and bring out the solids!
ELABORATE SKIRTS
2016 saw the return of sequin skirts, 2021 saw the resurgence of embroidery and 2020 was the year tinsel fringe walked the runway. All these trends came back this spring 2024. Dig deep into the back of your closet since some of these skirts date back 8 years.
If you skipped these trends in the past, consider adding embellishments to skirts you already own. In fact, take one of the sheer skirts and add sequin to them for an updated look.
OPEN AIR KNITS
Back in Spring 2021, netting dominated the runway and this Spring it returns with chunk lace, sequin embellishments and wider holes. If you invested in this trend just three years ago, you should have some pieces to start shopping from your closet.
This year focuses on tops and dresses but a good pair of separates worn together create an illusion of wearing a dress.
This trend also makes a good fiber project if you know how to crochet or knit.
SHORTS
Bermuda shorts in 2020, standard shorts in 2021 and short shorts in 2022 means shorts remain a Spring staple even after 2024.
This season sees high waisted shorts but also standard shorts in beautiful prints as well. The sheer variety of shorts on the runway means that any style of shorts work this season.
All our closets contain 3 years worth of shorts (mines contains a gorgeous silver pair from Anna Sui) and so dig through your closet for the perfect Spring wardrobe.
Conclusion
So a wardrobe for Spring should have about 15 pieces and here is the trends from your closet to add to your current rotation:
2 White dress
3 shorts
2 embellished skirts
2 sheer top
5 open weave knits
3 collared shirts
This combination makes about 100 outfits! Don’t believe us, check out this outfit calculator .
